Vuma partners with Els for Autism to open up possibilities

While Vuma is popularly known for delivering fast, reliable fibre internet to homes and communities across South Africa, its mission goes far beyond connectivity.

April marked Autism Acceptance Month, a time dedicated to embracing and honouring the experiences of autistic individuals and their families. To bring meaningful support to children on the spectrum by backing projects that prioritise education, inclusion, and long-term impact, this year Vuma has continued to partner with the Ernie Els Foundation and its Ernie Els Centre for Autism (EEC).

Reflecting its commitment to social impact, Vuma continues to play an active role in transforming lives in the communities where it operates. By identifying key needs, like access to quality autism education, Vuma is using the benefits of fibre to do more than just give access to megabytes, it’s helping unlock mega opportunities for those who need it most.

With support from Vuma, the Ernie Els Centre for Autism has managed to support over 400 teachers and 300 parents through workshops and training sessions in Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Northern Cape. These efforts are not just about philanthropy, they are about enabling access and dignity, one connection at a time.

The Ernie Els Centre supports families nationwide through in-person, telephonic, and online guidance, helping them apply autism-related interventions like Rethink First, an online autism intervention programme that equips families with evidence-based tools and strategies to support children with autism in their daily lives.

It also offers short-term coaching via the RUBI Network, empowering parents and caregivers with practical tools to better support their children. Through its partnership with the centre, Vuma is proud to contribute to expanding access to these vital resources, making quality autism support more accessible across the country.

Whether it’s through uncapped fibre to schools, helping them take advantage of broader academic benefits in the classroom or fibre-to-home infrastructure that supports remote learning, Vuma continues to use its reach to make a lasting change.

This collaboration with the Els for Autism Foundation is just one example of how the company lives its purpose, and in line with its core value of ‘Because we can, we must,’ by creating more inclusive, connected communities across the country.
