VUMA supports primary and high schools with free 1Gbps fibre
VUMA Is Committed To Connecting Every School We Pass To Free Open Access World-Class Broadband.
After launching the Schools Project in 2016, Vumatel has connected 45 Primary and High schools to free 1Gbps fibre.
VUMA piloted this initiative with Greenside High, Hoerskool Linden and Parkhurst Primary. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Since the pilot, Vumatel has welcomed a number of schools to reap the benefits of free world-class internet access.
The installation of fibre, along with the free internet services provided by Cool Ideas, at Forest Town School has made a significant impact on the lives of over 300 learners and teachers, as told by their IT Manager, Ben Louw. IT assistant, Justin Gomes, speaks of the massive impact VUMA fibre has had on the school. He says that “most classrooms are equipped with computers to allow quick internet access for teachers. The use of smart-boards and tablets is far more effective when teaching learners with special needs. The introduction of fibre has enabled us to increase security on the school’s premises, make use of e-learning programmes and introduce learners to new devices.”
Forest Town recently installed 12 IP cameras, received a marvellous donation of 40 tablets from PPC Cement and has installed 12 new computers – all to be used by learners varying from age 6.
Justin describes fibre as “chilling in a café and the coffee is on tap all day. There are no more restrictions, no waiting and no buffering. “
