Vumatel Connects Over 50 Schools to Free 1Gbps Fibre

After Launching The Schools Project In 2016, Vumatel Has Connected Over 50 Primary And High Schools To Free 1Gbps Fibre In Johannesburg And Cape Town.

After launching the Schools Project in 2016, Vumatel has connected over 50 Primary and High schools to free 1Gbps fibre in Johannesburg and Cape Town. We will continue to connect every school we pass to free super-fast fibre. Thanks to our school partners: Cell C, Cool Ideas, Crystal Web, Cybersmart, Home-Connect, iConnect, Telkom, VOX Telecom and Web Connections for supporting this initiative and helping us to provide connectivity to the schools. Together, we are committed to building a connected South Africa and a brighter future for all.

Since the pilot, Vumatel has welcomed a number of schools to reap the benefits of free world-class internet access. The VUMA Schools Project has provided free 1Gbps (Gigabit per second) world-class fibre broadband to the following schools: Agape Christian School, Bellavista School, Blairgowrie Primary School, Bryandale Primary School, Bryanston High School, Bryanston Primary School, Bryneven Primary School, Crossroads School, De La Salle Holy Cross College, Delta Park Primary, El Zera Private School, Emmarentia Primary School, Footprints Junior & Senior Phase, Forest Town School, Greenside High School, Greenside Primary School,Hoerskool Linden,Holy Family College, Fairmont High School, IR Griffith Primary School,King David Victory Park Primary School, Laerskool Fontainebleau, Laerskool Lou Geldenhuys, Melpark Primary School, Montessori Africa, Northcliff High School, Northcliff Primary School, Northwest Christian School, Panorama Primary School, Parkhurst Primary, Pridwin Preparatory School, Radford House, Randburg Hoerskool, Risidale Primary, Robin Hill Primary School, Roosevelt High School, Sandhurst Preparatory School, Saxonworld Primary School, Sharonlea Primary School, Spark School Ferndale, Sparrow Foundation School, Stepping Stones Montessori, St Katherines Preparatory School, St Peters Preparatory School, St Vincent School for The Deaf, Swan Preparatory School, TBK Primary School, The Kings College and Preparatory School, The Kings School Robin Hills, Unika Laerskool and Wendywood Primary School.

Each of these schools has reaped great benefits from the programme. One of the schools - Sparrow Foundation School – has a wonderful story to share. The free 1Gbps fibre line and the free internet service from VOX Telecom has impacted the lives of over 200 learners and teachers. As an NPO, it is vital for the school to have access to the internet for various fundraising initiatives and sponsorship programs. Principal Leona Krishna cannot express how grateful they all are for the high-speed internet access. Leona says “teachers now utilise online learning programs to best fit the needs of every learner in the school. Research has become a fun aspect of learning as students have access to a world of knowledge.” IT Manager, Quentin Janse van Rensburg, speaks of the significant difference that VUMA Fibre has had on the school.

He says that “the previous ADSL connection was not sufficient for the schools internet needs. There was a lot of lagging, downtime and vital time wasted on slow connectivity. Since the introduction of VUMA Fibre, children are getting through lessons much quicker and teachers and staff members are able to access the internet faster. Everyone is benefiting from super-fast internet and we cannot express how grateful we are. Thank you Vumatel!”

Vumatel hopes to contribute to more stories like these and will continue to support the growth and education of the youth of South Africa. Vumatel aims to connect an additional 40 schools to free fibre optic infrastructure by the end of 2017.
